A let down。 Never expected such a novel from Ken Follet。 There were three strands in the story which doesn't jell at all。 The US China tussle was a big let down。 A let down。 Never expected such a novel from Ken Follet。 There were three strands in the story which doesn't jell at all。 The US China tussle was a big let down。 。。。more

Yes they had nice stories with wrapped up endings, but in the overall plot they were almost entirely pointless, with little connection to the events。The President Green and Chang Kai portions of the book are just as good, a lot of political manipulation and to me seemed extremely accurate to how it may happen in real life。 The only annoying thing about this portion is the odd inclusion of President Greens marital troubles, the troubles themselves aren't odd but the times the characters choose to talk about them is, i find it hard to believe that one the cusp of an all out nuclear war, the president is thinking about her husbands affair(a husband who she admits to no longer love very early in the book) during the minimal time she spends alone。 Since her alone time during these parts is only immediately after waking or the time between her two basic locations in the book, the situation room and the domestic side of the white house。Overall its a solid read just a few parts felt unnecessary as they only seemed included as the glue between to separate books being mashed together。 。。。more

My third Ken Follett of the year。 Getting old and looking at the joy of pure simplistic entertaining reading。 Again, episodic with multiple characters set against the backdrop of the looming atomic holocaust of WW3。 The usual subjects, USA, CCP, North & South Korea playing dangerous with the lives of billions。 The premise as Follett sees it comes across as valid。 An insider’s view of the workings of multiple governments in crisis attempting to stop each other from dropping nukes! Follett as I noticed in my past two reading experiences has almost all the major character duo’s getting it on in the middle of hell。 It’s this aspect of the narrative that brings the escapist reality down。 There’s no direct erotic descriptions just titillating scribbles of sensual character thoughts whilst shit is going down。 It does detract because it’s so out of kilter with the story。 Nevertheless, a fun big weekend read。 Lost myself in the ridiculousnesses of politics, spies, terrorises who contribute to watching a train wreck in the moment。 Loads of characters, events, ideas with a sense of contemporary living history。 Entertaining easy read。 Bought from Big W Library for $16。00。 。。。more

Shocking。。。Horrible。。。 RealI read this as I grew to love the characters。 They were each real to their situation。 Then as reality started to tumble upon me, I wept。

Holy schmolies! I just finished this book。 My favorite book of all time is "Pillars of the Earth," so I was excited to get Follett's new book。 I had pre-ordered it months ago。 "Never" is not even remotely similar to "Pillars。" However, the writing, as always, was superb。 It spans Washington D。C。 to Africa (Chad, Sudan, Libya) to North and South Korea to China and even France。 I have never been left with such strong emotions after finishing a book。 I was on the edge of my seat for the entire read Holy schmolies! I cried。 I stayed up 'til 2:00 this morning reading it until I couldn't keep my eyes open any longer。 And, today, I got only a smidgeon of my chores done, because all I wanted to do was to keep reading。 This is seriously a page-turner。 。。。more

Didn’t love it。 Too many stories that just didn’t connect。 I love his trilogies。 This book was just a war book。

Never by Ken Follett is an exciting world-embracing tangle of catastrophes that, if handled correctly offer the possibility of avoiding worldwide conflagration。 The characters are smart, alert, intuitive--everything heroes should be。 The book is hard to put down because there isn't much space between conflicts。 So, you'll miss a night's sleep, you might be glad you did。 Never by Ken Follett is an exciting world-embracing tangle of catastrophes that, if handled correctly offer the possibility of avoiding worldwide conflagration。 The characters are smart, alert, intuitive--everything heroes should be。 The book is hard to put down because there isn't much space between conflicts。 So, you'll miss a night's sleep, you might be glad you did。 。。。more

Como siempre Follet te atrapa desde el principio hasta el final。 4 protagonistas que van contando la historia desde diferentes puntos del globo。 Parece el 4to de la trilogía del Sg 20。 Me gustó mucho!

Follett at his best Another amazing and well researched book by one of my all time favourite authors。 The crossed story lines that all merge being this book together in a finale that kept me enthralled to the very end。 Prob in my top 5 books of 2021。

Just fantastic, if you love Follett's books, you will love this new book。 His writing is so engaging that after reading this at bedtime the next morning for the first few seconds I'd think the nuclear war is actually about to happen。 Great book and as usual you get your money's worth with such a great length of book。 Just fantastic, if you love Follett's books, you will love this new book。 His writing is so engaging that after reading this at bedtime the next morning for the first few seconds I'd think the nuclear war is actually about to happen。 Great book and as usual you get your money's worth with such a great length of book。 。。。more

This was written the same way as Follett's historical fiction books, with well developed characters who have to work through extreme difficulties。 What is different about this book is that it is a fictional present day, with realistic events that could potentially lead to a nuclear war。 I enjoyed this book and recommend it。 This was written the same way as Follett's historical fiction books, with well developed characters who have to work through extreme difficulties。 What is different about this book is that it is a fictional present day, with realistic events that could potentially lead to a nuclear war。 I enjoyed this book and recommend it。 。。。more

Anything Ken Follett writes is amazing, entertaining, and enthralling。 "Never" met all expectations。 It was exciting and difficult to put down。 Dealing with terrorism, nuclear war, and romance, it had something for every one。 Although horrifying to contemplate, every politician should heed its warning。 Anything Ken Follett writes is amazing, entertaining, and enthralling。 "Never" met all expectations。 It was exciting and difficult to put down。 Dealing with terrorism, nuclear war, and romance, it had something for every one。 Although horrifying to contemplate, every politician should heed its warning。 。。。more

This was disappointing。 I have read nearly every one of Ken Follett’s books and loved them all except his last few。 This was another recent one that did not make the mark。 It is an excellent book for those who want an insight into how diplomacy works and how the machines of government operate but other than that it was poor。 There were a few good characters but we didn’t see enough of them and the main protagonist, the American president, was a woman who had little credibility in that role。 I su This was disappointing。 I have read nearly every one of Ken Follett’s books and loved them all except his last few。 This was another recent one that did not make the mark。 It is an excellent book for those who want an insight into how diplomacy works and how the machines of government operate but other than that it was poor。 There were a few good characters but we didn’t see enough of them and the main protagonist, the American president, was a woman who had little credibility in that role。 I suppose the pressures of our egalitarian society dictated that it was a female president? The story itself is weak by Follett’s high standards but it still held me enough to keep reading to the end。 As for the ending, well, when I saw that I had read 99% of the book and there was still so much unresolved you realised it was one of those endings that left you guessing…。。 。。。more

Great story about how WWIII could start。 Would give it 5 but too many gratuitous fwords and a dumb subplot with the American president。

A Sadly Probable FutureAll my life I have asked the question - will humankind ever evolve to the love envisioned in the deepest parts of our heart? Here is a book that sadly evokes all the reasons why we will instead self annihilate。 Mankind seems stuck on self destruction and this book shows a myriad of ways it does itself in。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 This is a different kind of book for Follett。 It isn’t the same as most Follett books, as it is not set in the past and it doesn’t have the normal clean and happy ending。 It was as if Follett wrote one of his normal books for the first 600 or so pages, and then the last 200 were his argument for nuclear disarmament, for not escalating, and for not electing belligerent leaders。 Both parts made for interesting reads and had his usual strong women characters。

I really rated Ken Follett's previous books。 I thought this was pretty poor。 I had the audiobook。 The book was 25 hours long and should have been 12 hours。 There was a lot of content that was not necessary to the main plot。 Lots of relationship content sometimes in very odd parts of the plot。 There were also a few sermons on pet subjects。 In fact thinking about it this was a romance novel combined with a thriller I really rated Ken Follett's previous books。 I thought this was pretty poor。 I had the audiobook。 The book was 25 hours long and should have been 12 hours。 There was a lot of content that was not necessary to the main plot。 Lots of relationship content sometimes in very odd parts of the plot。 There were also a few sermons on pet subjects。 In fact thinking about it this was a romance novel combined with a thriller 。。。more

I agree that this is not Ken Follett’s best, however it is thought provoking as to how quickly things can escalate into a situation where nuclear war is possible。 Scary for some, but with the right chain of events, possible。

Hard to say that you enjoyed a book about nuclear war, but this felt like a realistic way in which we might arrive at that outcome。
